Why do we conform to the norms of society and industry. Well it is certainly the safe play. We all tend to gravitate towards what we are familiar with. This is why so few reach the heights of success that we all dream about. Quite simply, we are all destined to be average because society and business keeps us in check (unless we are willing to stick out necks out and take a risk). So what does his have to do with SEO blogs and microsites? Let's start with looking at some good resources for SEO on Blogs: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/ (Some say the man behind Google algorithms)http://www.websitesource.com/blog/index.php?cat=53 (Good technical info)http://www.seobook.com/archives/000159.shtml (Good directory to reference)
Now if you want to venture out and take more of a risk, think about these stats undated for 2007 in reference to the posting below for 1997-1998:
- During the month of April 2006, a little more than 35 million domain names were registered (compare to 400,000 registered businesses online).
- For the full year 2006, online retail spending reached $102.1 billion - source comscore.com (compare to On-line Commerce for 1998 of 5.1 Billion).
- According to a recent survey from the Luxury Institute, a full 76% of wealthy Americans are reading blogs. That is up from 57% in the 2005 study. Also interesting is that more wealthy Americans are blogging themselves (24%), up from 18% in 2005. Adults Online Grows From 9% in '95 To 77% Today (compare http://www.businessweek.com/1997/18/b35254.htm).
With the rapid growth that will inevitably continue, your best bet for being successful online is to be very aggressive and do the things that are out of the norm:
- create a blog and post to it every day with good content and research that is worth viewers time reading.
- call on the experts and not so experts to help you with posting content and finding valuable information to post on your blog.
- give away trade secrets (some, but not all) to the respective Internet community (this will come back tenfold)
- be methodical about what you are doing (with SEO) and create a system that will be valuable to those that don't know. Believe it or not, the best advice you get is in changing what others are doing to get results vs. following what everyone else is doing.
- Start over... find a keyword domain by using http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/, use blogger.com or another free tool to point to keyword domain to, write about what you know, become an authority on the subject, promote yourself to online syndication and press release companies, use RSS feeds for adding new content and sharing yours.
This is just the starting point. Where you go from here is up to you but don't think inside the box and work outside the lines and success will be closer than you think.
