According to Jim Brady, VP and executive editor of washingtonpost.com, newspapers need to hook their readers online using blogs, live online chats and interactive databases. Attracting and retaining new customers  means connecting with them on the Internet and social media is the way to do it. Industry leaders told newspapers editors this week that the decline in newspaper advertising and circulation can be overcome through developing communities of readers through an interactive online experience. At an annual conference of the Associated Press Managing Editors, Brady states, "We are in a battle every day for traffic".

Blogs are still taking shape and online marketers are quickly realizing the power of marketing blogs and how to make blogs work for their business. Some blog gurus are already making them a major part of their online strategy and generating traffic and sales faster than any other method of online marketing due to the success of business blogs.
